Real before & after

New scene, original product

The background, surface and light are generated; every pixel inside the product comes from your photo.

The control other tools hide

You don't pick a model. You pick what survives.

Most img2img tools give you one abstract “strength” slider. We turn it into decisions a human actually makes.

Keep — hard constraints

Locked items become explicit model instructions — and a region mask when you paint one. The AI regenerates the whole image using your photo as the reference, so compare locked details with the original before you publish.

  • Face — it's still the same person. Identity reference plus face-region protection.
  • Subject — the product, pet or object keeps its shape, logo and key details.
  • Composition — pose and layout stay put via structure and depth control.
  • Text & Logo — the model is told to keep lettering and logos as they are; fine print can still change, so check it.

Change — creative freedom

One tap per intent. Each chip compiles into a structured instruction with the right negative constraints.

  • Style — anime, watercolor, film, 3D, oil paint and 40+ more.
  • Background — a new scene behind an untouched subject.
  • Outfit — swap clothing while the person stays the person.
  • Lighting — golden hour, studio, neon night, overcast.

Subtle

Light touch: tone, light, small edits. Routed to precise editing models.

Balanced

The default. Obvious change with stable identity and layout.

Creative

Big reimagining. Structure loosens — fine details may drift, on purpose.

Complete guide

Change a product photo background and keep the product exactly

Most AI background tools regenerate the whole picture, which is why labels blur and colors shift. Keepframe splits the job: the AI paints only the new scene around your product, then the product itself is cut out of your original upload in your browser and pasted back on top at full resolution. You get the new setting with the product exactly as you photographed it.

In short

To change a product photo's background without changing the product, Keepframe lets the AI (Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) generate only the new scene and then pastes your original product back pixel-for-pixel: the product is cut out of your upload in your browser (ISNet segmentation) and composited at the original resolution, so shape, color, label and logo stay exactly as photographed. The first result is free with no sign-up and no added watermark; then 5 credits per image.

Keep Product Pixels, Change Background: what you get

Free to tryFirst standard (about 1K) result free as a guest — no sign-up, no credit card, no app download. Failed generations don't count.
After the free result5 credits per standard image. One-time packs: $6 for 50 credits (10 images) or $12 for 125. Plans: $9/month for 100, $19/month for 250; credits carry over.
WatermarkNo visible watermark is added. The model provider's invisible provenance mark (SynthID) is not removed.
How the original is keptLocks become explicit instructions to the image model (Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Image); a painted region becomes a mask. The image is regenerated with your photo as the reference. Exception: for background changes, "Keep subject pixels exactly" cuts your original subject out in your browser and pastes those pixels back unchanged — same price.
Best forSellers who need lifestyle or seasonal scenes where the product, label and logo must match the real item exactly.
Not the right tool forGlass, smoke, fine hair or products with holes (edges can be rough), and shots where you want the product re-lit or re-angled.
Three versions: original jar, AI-only edit that tinted the jar cream, and Keepframe keep-pixels result with the original white jar on a marble counter
Left: original. Middle: AI only — the white jar drifted to cream. Right: Keep subject pixels exactly — same scene, original jar pixels (max difference inside the product: 0).

How to get a controlled result

A three-step workflow for Keep Product Pixels, Change Background

Upload a clean product photo

Whole product in frame, plain or simple background, label facing the camera.

Choose Background, keep the option on

"Keep subject pixels exactly" is on by default for product photos.

Describe the scene and generate

Name the surface, setting and light; the original product is pasted back automatically.

Prompt examples

Copy one as a starting point, then change only the details that matter to your image.

  1. On a white marble bathroom counter with soft morning window light and a sprig of eucalyptus.
  2. On a rustic oak kitchen table with warm afternoon light and blurred herbs in the background.
  3. On a seamless pastel pink backdrop with a soft contact shadow, studio lighting.
  4. On a wet black stone surface with dramatic rim light and water droplets around it.

Common problems and fixes

Use these checks before increasing change strength or adding more instructions.

Edges look cut out. Ask for a matching contact shadow and light direction in the prompt.
The product appears twice. The AI moved the product; regenerate, or turn the option off for that image.
Transparent or glass products. Turn the option off — see-through areas can't be cut out cleanly.

Honest limits

What AI still gets wrong — and what we do about it

No “100% accurate” promises. Here's the truth, and the workaround.

Faces can drift at Creative strength. If it stops looking like you, drop to Balanced or Subtle — Face lock works hardest there.
Hands and fingers remain the hardest thing in AI imaging. Keep them out of the change region when you can.
Tiny text and fine logos may blur or change. Turn on Text & Logo lock and compare them against the original before publishing.
Complex textures like lace, fur or micro-patterns can simplify. Subtle strength preserves them best.
Big scene swaps can nudge edges of the composition. Lock Composition and expect minor boundary shifts, not layout changes.
Failed generations happen. Timeouts and moderation blocks are labeled clearly and never consume your free quota.
FAQ

Questions, answered straight

Upload the photo, choose Background, leave "Keep subject pixels exactly" on and describe the new scene. The AI only paints the background; the original product pixels are cut out in your browser and pasted back unchanged.

Inside the product the output pixels are copied from your original file at its original resolution. Only a 1–2 px feathered edge is blended so the cut-out sits naturally. In our test the largest difference inside the product was 0.

Generative models redraw the whole image, so labels, logos and colors drift — in our example the AI-only version tinted a white jar cream. Pasting the original back removes that drift.

Your first result is free with no sign-up. After that it is 5 credits per image, the same as a normal edit ($6 buys 10). The cut-out runs in your browser at no extra cost.

Glass, smoke, fine hair and products with holes can leave rough edges, and if the AI moves the product the pasted original may not line up — turn the option off for those images.
