Option 1 — copy the transcript straight from YouTube (30 seconds)
- Open the video on youtube.com in a desktop browser.
- Click …more under the title to expand the description.
- Scroll down and click Show transcript. The transcript opens next to the video.
- Click the ⋮ menu of the transcript panel and choose Toggle timestamps if you want plain text.
- Select the text, copy it (Ctrl/Cmd + C) and paste it anywhere. On the YouTube app: tap the description, then Show transcript.
This only works when the uploader or YouTube provides captions. No captions? Or you have the video or audio file? Use option 2.

How do I get the transcript of a YouTube video?
On youtube.com, click …more under the video title, scroll to Show transcript, then copy the text from the panel. Use the ⋮ menu to hide timestamps. In the app, open the description and tap Show transcript.
Why can't I paste a YouTube link here?
Downloading or scraping YouTube from a server goes against YouTube's terms, so this tool doesn't do it. Copy from Show transcript, or transcribe a file you have the right to use.
The video has no Show transcript button — what now?
That means it has no captions. If you own the video or have its file, transcribe the file here; YouTube Studio can also auto-caption your own uploads.
Is the file transcription free?

Which languages are supported?
